Wine Review

If Six Was Nine Cabernet Sauvignon is the Estate’s take on a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon varietal wine. However, being from Bordeaux it’s difficult to live with just one variety! So a little Merlot is blended in to help the mid palate and Cabernet Franc to provide that extra flavor boost. The red wine grapes are sourced from different vineyards, which all have something in common – they are from the classic valley floor, cool climate hill or mountain vineyards. Each element brings to the final blend different values – a richness from the valley and a raciness from the mountains.

Described by Robert Parker as a ‘visionary, self-styled revolutionary’ and the ‘English winemaking guru,’ Jonathan Maltus cut his teeth in the fine wine business during the ‘garage revolution‘ in Saint Emilion, France during the 1990’s. Chateau Teyssier, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Estate, has expanded from 14 to 125 acres. Maltus’ winery is now one of the main vineyards of Saint Emilion. His 2010 wines earned three 5 Star ratings from Decanter, including its flagship wine, Le Dôme).

The garage movement’s goals were in direct response to the traditional style of red Bordeaux wine, which is usually very tannic and requires a longer aging in the bottle before drinking. The garagistes developed a style more consistent with perceived international wine tastes, fueled to a large degree by wine critic Robert Parker’s reviews. During this period, garagiste winemakers competed with each other to make wines that were modern in style, with higher levels of fruit and alcohol. The techniques used—including double sorting of fruit, lees utilization, and gravity transfer—have become almost de rigueur today, for any Cru Classé Estate. Jeff Love had this to say about the 2013 World’s End If Six Was Nine Cabernet Sauvignon: “How can anyone not like a wine named after a Jimi Hendrix number? Produced from 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, this cassis, earth, mocha and vanilla scented wine, priced [under $50], offers value in the expensive, over crowded, Cabernet Sauvignon category.”

It might be French-inspired, but as you’ll taste, the 2013 World’s End If Six Was Nine Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is all Napa. Softened by Merlot, this lovely concoction opens with a waft of smoky cigar box, while a bold, loud expression of the variety dotted in classic notes of cassis and cedar. It might be French-inspired, but as you can see, the 2013 World's End If Six Was Nine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is all Napa. Softened by 6% Merlot, this lovely concoction opens with a waft of smoky cigar box, becoming a bold, loud expression of the variety dotted in classic notes of cassis and cedar. This Grape Certified Platinum rated red wine pairs well with any of your favorite recipes but consider pastas, red and smoked meats and an amazing bbq hamburger topped with bacon.
