Wine Review

Sometimes you find or stumble on something that’s so good, it speaks for itself, whether a movie, a food spot, or some (new) tech gadget. When that’s the case, we think it’s best to share the recommendation, sit back and wait for the “Oh snap/Oh sh*t!” reaction. This was exactly the case when we found two of our all-time favorite red wines, the Amalaya Malbec Red Blend and the Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon.

Today, we’re back with another red wine recommendation that we think will garner similar reactions: the 2013 Wirra Wirra Church Block CSM. This delicious red wine comes from McLaren Vale, Australia, which is one of our favorite wine regions. We’ve always found southern hemisphere wine regions, like Chile, South Africa and New Zealand, to name a few, possess a balance and smoothness that makes loving red wine way too easy.

Anytime we come across a wine this amazing, as the Wirra Wirra Church Block is, that is also cheap, costing less than $20 ($18), it’s hard to contain our excitement. And this wine could not be any more highly regarded, with a number of well-respected wine critics giving it scores of 90 points or more. This is the kind of wine find you almost keep to yourself, like that secret fishing spot, because you know once the word’s out you won’t be able to enjoy it as long as you’d hoped, especially given a particular wine vintages limited supply or availability. Remember, you can make more iPhones but you can’t make more of the 2013 Wirra Wirra Church Block.

A much-loved South Aussie red... Great value and worth stashing a few away for a few years. -- Tony Love The Advertiser, Top 100 Wines

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, we suggest you stock up on this diamond in the rough so you can drink some now and later. We fully expect in 2-5 years it will be even better than it is now, so we suggest you grab at least a ½ case, or 6 bottles, of this gem. A hint of the deliciousness is only heightened by the blend of the following grape varietals: the deep character and flavors of Cabernet; the beautifully tasty, if not sweet, characteristics of Shiraz; and the smooth and balanced flavors of Merlot. The grape combinations make for a most delicious red wine blend with hints of luscious fruits, elegant tannins and a smooth texture that will leave your taste buds applauding the inventive fusion of flavors. So, if you come across this in your local Costco, Total Wine, Trader Joe’s or local wine store, make sure you grab as many bottles as your budget will allow. You won’t regret it.

The value and flavor of this wine is going to make it hard to beat my friends. It is definitely a wine worth seeking out and it can be enjoyed during an evening of BBQ’ing, board games or that special occasion. However you choose to enjoy this wine it will not disappoint, but we suggest you get your hands on it sooner than later because it is one of those that will be sold out before you know it.
