Stolpman Syrah Estate Grown 2012

Today In Wine: Stolpman Syrah Estate Grown 2012 ($30)

“Coming from one of Ballard Canyon’s premiere vineyards, this offers aromas of black cherry, wet black loam and morning dew on sage. The mouthfeel is all silk, and flavors are savory, with elderberries, crushed sage and wild mint.” – Wine Enthusiast

Wine Review

Secluded in California’s Central Coast wine region, Stolpman Vineyards is committed to preserving a natural environment for their grape vines. In addition to natural and dry farming, Stolpman’s winemakers have a preference for native fermentation and minimal manipulation. Their winemaking team is passionate and dedicated to sensible farming and winemaking that highlights the vibrant, site-specific focus unique to Ballard Canyon AVA.

The 2012 Stolpman vintage has been described as a, “dream vintage”! All the grapes were picked at night when the fruit was at the peak of bright-ripeness. And from this, winemaker Sashi Moorman made the perfect wine. The amazing, 2012 Estate Grown Stolpman Syrah shows primarily black and purple fruits with some red fruit on the frame. Enjoy fresh berry aromas, followed by a woodiness that lingers behind the attractive perfume integrated through fermenting on dry-farmed stems rather than aging in new oak. As the wine stretches its legs, notice how the wine gains complexity and depth.

Enjoy the 2012 Estate Grown Stolpman Syrah now or hold onto it for a few years – this wine will continue to blossom. We recommend pairing this fabulous wine with the following recipes: TheGrape’s Chipotle pork cheeseburger; herb marinated beef skewers or braised lamb. On the other hand, the vegetarian deep-dish skillet pizza also pairs beautifully with this wine.

Looking for a great wine to enjoy under $35? Try the, 2012 Stolpman Estate Grown Syrah. After aerating for about 45 min. to an hour, a complex parade of dark fruity aromas popped from the glass. Waves of blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, plum, and fresh soil, took turns taking the lead. This was a balanced wine with silky tannins and herbaceous features that displayed a somewhat chalky rock finish. Open a bottle of this Grape Certified Platinum saucy Syrah and enjoy with your favorite meal, or prepare one of the recipes listed. Cheers!
