Wine Review
The Sokol Blosser Winery is both family-owned and operated and dedicated to creating world-class wines. Today, the second-generation winegrowers of Sokol Blosser continue the ‘good to earth’ policy through certified-organic farming, sustainable business practices and low impact packaging. In fact, they were the first US winery to receive LEED Certification – and recently became a Certified B Corporation.
The highly rated 18th Edition of the Sokol Blosser Evolution White Blend is both complex and approachable, a truly intense and flavorful blend of grapes. Floral and spicy notes leap from the glass, upon sipping, lush tropical fruits pervade the palate ending with a clean crisp finish. Wine Spectator said the following about the Sokol Blosser Evolution White Blend 18th Edition NV, “Light and silky, this off-dry, delicate style offers pretty floral and spice overtones to the modest pear flavors.”
The ‘NV’ stands for non-vintage, while 18th Edition refers to or serves a similar function to a vintage date. The use of these particular labels are the result of the winemaker’s use of the following seven grapes: White Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Muscat Canelli, Chardonnay and Early Muscat. To blend this many grape varietals is truly an art. In this case, the resulting artistry is lush stone and tropical fruits, loading the palate with flavors of peaches, cream, lemon meringue and peaches.
Sokol Blosser Winemaker Emeritus, Russ Rosner, had this to say about making the 18th Edition of the Sokol Blosser Evolution White Blend:
In over twenty years of winemaking this is by far the hardest wine I’ve had to make. It’s like mixing nine different colors of paint and trying to end up with a rainbow instead of a muddy brown.
This white blend is ready to drink now. We suggest you grab a bottle and pair the Sokol Blosser Evolution White Blend with THEGRAPE’s Pasta Pescatore Recipe. It also pairs really well with spicy foods, like spicy tuna rolls or a Thai shrimp and halibut curry recipe. For our vegetarian friends, try a smoked vegetarian Spanish rice dish.
