Hot Dogs and Wine Pairing

Food & Wine Friday: Seattle Hot Dogs and Wine

This Week In Food & Wine: Seattle Hot Dogs & Washington Wines = Memorial Day Deliciousness!!

Before we talk food & wine, would like to begin by thanking all of the men and women who have proudly worn our this great country’s military uniforms and protected and served the United Staes of America and the world! We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Now that we’ve taken care of business, it’s time to celebrate Memorial Day! And the food and wine pairing we’re choosing to share with you this holiday weekend is from our friends in the great northwest; a hot dogs and wine pairing.

Second only to California, the state of Washington and its growing wine scene is definitely making a name for itself. With well known wineries, such as EROICA, Chateau Ste. Michelle and Cayuse, it’s no wonder that wine lovers from around the world are taking note of the wine movement in Washington. All this being said, it’s time to talk food & wine and the delicious Seattle Dogs wine pairings!

A favorite among late night partygoers, the Seattle Dog has made a name for itself and remains a popular, late night, Seattle tradition. Ask anyone at TheGrape and they’ll tell you this unique combination of flavors, paired with delicious Washington wines, will change the way you see food and wine pairings forever! You can find your Grape certified wine suggestions after the recipe. It’s time to dive in and enjoy the deliciously, world famous Seattle Dog!

Seattle Hot Dogs Recipe:   Servings: 4  |  Prep & Cook Time: 30 Min

  1. 4 hot dogs or 4 vegetarian hot dogs
  2. 4 hot dog buns
  3. 1 onion thinly sliced
  4. 1 teaspoon oil
  5. 2 teaspoon butter
  6. 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  7. Salt
  8. Pepper
  9. 6 ounces cream cheese

Cooking Instructions

  1. First, heat the butter and oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion and sugar, and cook for 20 minutes or until onions are caramelized. Make sure you are stirring regularly.
  3. Next, season with a little salt and pepper to taste.
  4. As the onions are caramelizing, you can heat the cream cheese in a pot until soft and warm but not melted or cooked.
  5. Now, cook the hot dogs according to the package directions and toast the buns.
  6. Once toasted, go ahead and spread cream cheese on each warm bun.
  7. Then, you just top with a hot dog and onions and you are good to go! You have yourself a Seattle Dog!

Now some Seattleites have modified the Seattle hot dog recipe by adding strips of bacon or dressing the hot dog with sautéed cabbage. We’d say that at its core, this trendy taster is awesome but adding any of the following additions just makes it that much more unique and dare we say, scrumptious! Give it a try this Memorial Day. It’s simple, delicious and we’d love to hear your thoughts on this unique food & wine pairing. Cheers!
