So you saw this title and may have thought, “How good can a Vegan and Gluten Free pizza really be minus all of the normal ingredients? I’m not sure this food and wine pairing is for me!” Hold on a second there flavor police! We love a traditional pizza and wine too, but for health and opportunity’s sake we had to show you what you’re missing. Take a look at the ingredients and you’ll see, this pizza actually offers as much flavor as a traditional pizza, all the while doing away with the waistline worries. So before you turn down this new type of pizza, give it a try! It’s a delicious, heart healthy option! We usually start with our suggested wines but you’ll now find those at the bottom of this post; saving the best for last!

 

Gluten Free Vegan Portobello Pizza Recipe –  Cook & Prep Time: 20 – 25 minutes  –  Serves: 4 – 6

Ingredients

  1. 3 large Portobello mushrooms, wiped clean, stems removed
  2. Olive oil
  3. ¼ tsp garlic powder
  4. ¼ tsp dried basil
  5. ¼ Cup diced fresh basil
  6. ¼ tsp dried oregano
  7. 1 cup pizza sauce
  8. ½ cup mixed veggies (onion, mushroom, tomato, green pepper, etc.)
  9. Vegan Parmesan Cheese

 

Cooking Instructions

  1. First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Next, place cleaned mushrooms on a baking sheet and lightly drizzle both sides with a little olive oil. Sprinkle the mushrooms with garlic powder, basil and oregano, then bake for 5 minutes.
  3. While that is baking, prep veggies and prepare pizza sauce if you haven’t done so already.
  4. Once partially baked, pull the mushrooms out of the oven and top with desired amount of pizza sauce, veggies and sprinkles of vegan Parmesan cheese.
  5. Return the mushrooms to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the veggies are mostly cooked.
  6. Lastly, serve with diced fresh basil, red pepper flakes and extra vegan Parmesan to add the additional flavoring touches. Bon Appetite!
