In 2009, Carlo Trinchero and Joseph Phelps came together to realize their dream of starting their own wine label, Take Wine Company. Having grown up together in St. Helena’s Napa Valley wine region, one could say, wine is in their DNA. The Taken Wines are crafted and appeal to the millennial generation in terms of what’s inside and outside the bottle.
The 2013 Napa Valley Taken Red Blend is the second epic vintage they’ve had in Napa Valley. Having received [good] rainfall in the spring and optimal weather conditions throughout the seasons, led to an early October harvest. As a result, the fruit matured beautifully and grapes displayed perfect ripeness with higher yields than expected, showcasing good fruit concentration, flavor, and character.
The much appreciated 2013 Taken Red Blend displays a dark garnet red color with a purple tint. On the nose, rich and intense aromas of ripe blackberries and blueberries with crushed graphite and earthy notes are at the forefront. Followed by underlying deep tones of dark chocolate and espresso with hints of vanilla and a toasty French oak scent. On the palate, blackberries, chocolate, plum, and cassis wash over the palate with smooth ease. This red wine blend is dense and structured and the finish lingers with notes of espresso and toasted oak. The Merlot brings a softness to the wine and adds complexity and roundness to the mid-palate making for a great balance.
Drink the 2013 Taken Red Blend now or lay down for another 6 to 10 years – this wine will continue to evolve and appreciate with time.
