24 Jun Wine Wednesday: Napa Cellars Chardonnay 2012 ($22)
“Mild yet fairly rich and softly fruited, this medium-full-bodied (wine) is balanced… No need to wait on this one. Enjoy it now.” – Wine Connoisseurs’ Guide
2013 Orange County Wine Society – Gold
2013 Critics Challenge Wine Competition – Silver
2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition – Silver
2014 THEGRAPE Grape Certified – Gold Medal
Using Chardonnay sourced from the southern end of Napa Valley, Napa Cellars vineyards offer cool climates, which provides excellent hang time for the grapevines, fully developed flavors, and a bright acidity that allows winemaker Joel Shirley to deliver fully ripened grapes for more mature fruit flavors. With the 2012 Napa Cellars Chardonnay you’ll enjoy amazing flavors, including fresh apple and pear.
The use of French oak wine barrels, for aging, frames this white wine nicely, creating a long finish with notes of toasted crème brûlée and caramelized characters that help complement and accent the fruit. It should then come as no surprise that winemaker Joel Shirley said the following about his award winning Chardonnay, “The Napa Cellars Chardonnay is our most popular wine, and I think it’s because it really delivers really nice varietal character.” We could not agree more.
