Every so often you come across or hear about a wine that’s so good you’ve gotta try it. Then you realize it’s just a little, or maybe a lot, outside of your (normal) price range. Well, the 2013 Justin Focus Syrah might just be that wine. At $100 per bottle, it’s well outside the wine price range ($15 – $25) we typically recommend but this red wine is just too good to pass up. And if you’re not familiar with the Central California wine region, including and especially Paso Robles, you’re really missing out on some of the best wines California’s wine country has to offer.
Justin Vineyards & Winery was established in 1981 with a mission of crafting wines that could stand with some of the best wines in the world. It’s situated on land, in Paso Robles, that is rich in fossilized limestone. Justin’s soil proves it’s well suited for creating big, Bordeaux-styled reds. Combine this with distinctive microclimate and you have the perfect conditions that help grapes develop and ultimately showcase wines that offer intense flavor, good structure and fine balance. Justin’s combination of Old World winemaking methods with New World technology, proves you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
The widely adored and well praised, Justin Focus Syrah, stirs anticipation with its lush, deep purple and ruby red color. On the nose, ripe black fruit, and pepper play off traces of meat and leather. On the palate, blackberry, boysenberry fruit flavors lead, followed by undertones of smoky bacon and cracked pepper accents with faint traces of mint. Wine Enthusiast’s, Matt Kettman, describes this wine as follows, “There is a pleasantly dainty nose on this decidedly undainty wine, with light, toasted coconut and cherry cola aromas. The palate discloses root beer, cooked raspberry and slight vanilla, with flavors walking an expert tightrope between the grape’s brooding character and an acidic freshness. It’s ideal for pairing with a variety of foods, from hearty cuts of beef and sausage to turkey and pork roast.”
Drink the 2013 Justin Focus Syrah now or lay it down for another five to ten years. Enjoy the Justin Syrah with any one of these fine recipes: THEGRAPE’s Chipotle Pork Cheeseburger, a Fennel & Rosemary Beef Tenderloin, a Salmon Pie with Potatoes and Spinach, or a Tomato Tart!

Grape Certified Gold Medal
The 2013 Justin Focus Syrah is that one bottle of wine you blow out your budget restrictions for! At $100 per bottle, it doesn't fall in the $15 to $25 price range we typically stick to. We think you'll love it. A quality red wine to store for a bit, this baby will definitely need some time to open up. Relish the blend of sweet fruits and smoky grilled meat aromas. Savor racy red berry and cola flavors with lingering traces of herbs and peppercorn. A ‘must have’ with fatty meats or cheesy dishes. This Grape Certified Gold wine is the epitome of excellence.
