Hawaiian Pizza With Wine - THEGRAPE

A Mind-Numbing Hawaiian Pizza With Wine Combo!

We never imagined we’d get the responses we did from our Bacon, Tomato & Asparagus pizza but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised considering it was pizza with bacon! We’ve since received numerous requests for an encore (pizza) and we’re eager to oblige. After pouring over different recipes and much discussion it occurred to us that we should go with a crowd and personal favorite. Hawaiian pizza with wine! This sweet but savory pie makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The combination of fresh ingredients paired with the right wine will only make your mouth dance a jig. Prepare to see pizza and wine in a whole new way!

We’re definitely advocates for using the freshest ingredients anytime you’re preparing a meal but we understand that time, family and availability of fresh ingredients often force your hand. When time affords, we encourage you to make this pizza from scratch, including the dough, but in the meantime, we’ll be suggesting ingredients that we believe you’ll enjoy just as much. Besides, after washing each bite down with a sip of wine we’re confident you’ll be none the wiser. Depending on how many slices of pizza you plan to enjoy, this recipe is designed to comfortably serve 4 people, 3 slices each, and has a prep & cook time of 25 minutes.  Shall we begin? Don’t forget to pour yourself a glass of wine first, of course!

Ingredients:

a. 1 12-inch ready-made or pre-baked refrigerated pizza dough

b. 2 teaspoons olive oil

c. 1-cup of tomato & basil pasta sauce

d. 2-cups chopped smoked ham or 12 oz. smoked Canadian bacon (sliced)

e. 1 (20 ounce) can of pineapple chunks (Make sure they are well drained)

f. 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

g. 1 cup shredded provolone cheese

Note: For an added kick, add deli style jalapenos.

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Brush pizza crust with olive oil, and spread pizza sauce evenly over crust.
  3. Top sauce evenly with ham pieces and pineapple chunks.
  4. Sprinkle with cheeses as desired.
  5. Place in preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes or until cheese melts and crust is lightly browned.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool, while you pour yourself another glass.
  7. It’s time to slice, share, and enjoy! Bon Appétit!

Note: If you don’t have a favorite tomato basil pasta sauce, try Rao’s Homemade, Bove’s or Classico. All can be found at most supermarkets.

Note: Canadian bacon can be found in most supermarkets in 6 ounce packages already thinly sliced.

Note: For a homemade dough or a ready-made dough that isn’t pre-baked, you’ll need to cook the pizza 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
