Mash ups and wine are the new “it” factor in food for 2014, so we’ve gathered some tasty favorites and come up with this dandy, grilled steak on pita bread with lettuce tomatoes and hummus. Whether you choose to take it outside for the added charcoal flavor or keep it inside on a grill pan for the convenience, this simple recipe will make your taste buds dance! Because this is a mash up of flavors, wine pairings should be creative. Every deliciously, flavorful bite should be complemented with its grape derived equal to wash it down. You’ll find our suggestions for grapeness at the bottom of today’s post.

 

Grilled Steak and Hummus and Pita Bread Mash-Up Recipe!

Prep & Cook Time: 20 Minutes

Serves: 4

 

Ingredients:

a. 2 – 1 Inch New York steaks sliced

b. Olive Oil, Montreal Steak Seasoning and Garlic Salt

c. 8 Wholemeal pita bread

d. Your choice of hummus, we suggest Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Creamy & Smooth Hummus.

e. 2 Roma tomatoes, sliced

f. 1 Carrot, peeled into ribbons

g. Lettuce, to serve

h. Dill pickles, sliced (optional)

i. Provolone Cheese

j. Sliced Avocado

 

Cooking Instructions:

a. Prepare steaks with brushed olive oil, Montreal Steak Seasoning and light garlic salt.

b. Cook for approximately 2.5 minutes on each side over high heat for a medium finish and cook longer for a (more) well-done steak.

c. Once cooked, remove while hot and slice, applying provolone cheese to the portions that will be served cheesy.

d. Cut each pita bread in half and spread the hummus.

e. Place the desired amount of steak slices on top of this with or without cheese. Cheese is suggested for the Wow factor!

f. Lastly, add the lettuce, tomato, carrot, avocado and dill pickles if desired and serve!
