Wine Review

Having a long history that dates back to 1890 when Swiss immigrant Andrew Frei established the property and winery in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley wine region – the Frei Brothers have been a successful winery for over 70 years. They continue to place a high value on selecting grapes from specific wine regions within Sonoma. And, are dedicated to preserving the purest expression of those grapes, so that the natural essence may be translated and experienced through their wines.

The adored, 2012 Frei Brothers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon displays earthy nuances with plum and cigar box aromas that are framed by smoky undertones. The flavors are complex and reveal notes of blackberry and tealeaf as they build up to a velvety finish.  Wine Spectator wrote the following review, “Combines firm, dark fruit and chewy tannins with a measure of finesse and refinement. Ends with gripping, cedary tannins, bolstered by good length and depth.”

Whether you choose to open a bottle tonight or lay one down for another 10 years, this wine will continue to evolve. Grape Certified Gold

The 2012 Frei Brothers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific choice! If you love a good Bordeaux and are searching for a decently priced wine under $30 – try this wine! The aromas schmooze and set the tone for what flavors are to come. Dark fruits with equally noticeable traces of tobacco, fresh soil, and smoky elements are detected. The texture is velvety smooth, and the tannins slightly grip on the finish before gently releasing. This Grape Certified Gold wine would make a great addition to any cellar considering its ability to age. Enjoy on a cold night with a cigar or grilled foods. Cheers!
