Wine Review

The Columbia Valley is the largest wine-growing region in Washington and encircles a number of smaller wine regions, which include: Horse Heaven Hills, Yakima Valley, Walla Walla Valley, and more. While many popular wine varieties flourish in this vast and fruitful region, Merlot is the most popular grape variety grown throughout the wine region. For more than two decades Horse Heaven Hills has served as the source and inspiration behind the H3 wines. In addition, the 2012 vintage produced superb red wines packed with flavor and rich with ripe tannins.

The 2012 Columbia Crest H3 Horse Heaven Hills Merlot is a medium-bodied wine that delivers aromas of spice and blackberry. A terrific combination of earth, cocoa and ripe cherry flavors with a rich, velvety finish that lasts. Wine Spectator described this wine as, “rich and ripe, supple in texture, with dense flavors of blackberry, smoke, burnt cream and pepper that linger on the expressive finish.”

Now is as good a time as any to enjoy this red beauty, however feel free to lay this wine down for a couple of years. Rather than enjoy a bottle alone, we recommend pairing it with the following: grilled steak and hummus, chicken stir-fry, apple smoked cheese stuffed bacon burger, or dry fruit saffron rice.
