Wine Review

The popular Chateau Ste. Michelle winery was founded in 1934 and is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley wine region. Their approach includes combining Old World winemaking methods with New World innovation techniques – and they are famous for their award winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The highly rated, 2012 Indian Wells Vineyard Chardonnay displays an appealing tropical fruit character that is rich and creamy. It delivers perfectly ripe pineapple flavors mixed with brown sugar notes. Wine Enthusiast’s, Paul Gregutt, described the wine as follows, “The Indian Wells Chardonnay by this producer continues to improve with each vintage. Here, the melding of luscious tropical fruit with buttery barrel flavors is just about perfect. Pineapple, Meyer lemon and candied oranges highlight the intense flavors, and the lushy-applied oak influences carry the full-bodied wine to hold a smooth, satisfying finish.”

Open a bottle this week or save for later this year. If you’re looking for foods to pair with this wine, we recommend: chicken thighs Piccata, TheGrape’s healthy chicken fajitas; New England seafood chowder, or fried chickpea and arugula pita sandwiches with lime Tzatziki sauce.

If you’re unable to find a bottle of the 2012 Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Chardonnay, try the 2013 Chardonnay ($17) or 2014 Chardonnay ($24); both vintages are similarly rated and equally enjoyable.
